Art and Artists of Tuscany

Cortona Art Group meets in May and September
for art and history introduction to Cortona. Book now for next month!

Tuscany Traveller hosts
small informal groups in the beautiful walled hilltown of Cortona.
Like-minded couples spend
a week sharing our local knowledge and interest in
Renaissance and modern art, with a little Etruscan
culture thrown in.

Renaissance and modern artists with a Cortona connection
provide the backdrop to exploring the town in a relaxed,
informal and lightly structured group, comprising six to eight
people. (The
accommodation is only suitable for couples).
During the week we
introduce the town of Cortona and its surroundings, explore local
historic
churches, museums and galleries as
well as viewing the work of more modern
artists with links to the town and see local artisan work.

Cortona is rich in art in both museums and churches and the walks to
visit the artworks reveal wonderful examples of medieval architecture
and a very special slice of Tuscany.
You will see in the faces
of the locals that some could have stepped out of a Renaissance
painting, so little have local features changed over the centuries.
Don't
expect umbrella-waving guides dragging
everyone around in the midday sun - we provide
information and
background and
point you in the right directions. Ours is a relaxed approach, groups may
be unaccompanied some days, armed only with our information
sheets, and helpful notes which we will discuss each morning
over a cappuccino. |
|

We are
enthusiasts, not experts, who love to share local knowledge with others.
We meet over caffè to discuss the day's theme and have
dinner together in a local trattoria once during the week. The evenings are yours,
as are Saturday and Sunday (departure day), to discover either what we suggest or
for your own leisure plans. |

Tuscany is
the most famous of the 20 regions of Italy.
In central Italy, its western edge is coastline, but to the north,
east and south it borders with five other regions: Liguria, Emilia
Romagna, Marche, Umbria and Lazio. Tuscany is celebrated for its
wealth of art, illustrious history (Etruscan and Roman) and richly
evocative landscape. It's a place where the past and present fuse
into a delicate harmony. Whichever part of the province you choose
to explore, you will find an ancient land every bit as captivating
as its reputation
promises. Your
only problem is deciding what to leave out. Tuscany
Traveller gets behind the tourist exteriors and finds the real
Tuscany to make your choices easier and your travel even
better. There are
different types of holidays: you can laze by a pool or learn to
cook, paint or take photographs, see
Etruscan artefacts and Roman architecture.
There is ballooning, bike tours on beautiful roads and sports
including fencing and rowing. Let us tailor-make your stay or find
the best villa, farmhouse with swimming pool or apartment for you
to stay in.
