Welcome to Tuscany Traveller 's
Cortona Art Group -  Get to know Cortona well

You will be literally a few minutes walk from the centre
of Cortona, full of Renaissance architecture, up steep, narrow lanes (vias) to piazzas, where very  friendly local people love life to the full.
Cortona is a maze of narrow streets and vicoli (lanes), with a constant buzz from friendly, chatting Cortonese. An intense and magical atmosphere hovers amongst the historic buildings.
History, art and music are at your disposal in the museums and theatres and of course in the open-air piazzas.

C
onstant daytime buzz from the friendly chatting Cortonese until siesta.
Many morning coffee meeting places and exquisite shops within a short distance of each other along the vias. There is a daily vegetable market and a full busy Saturday market
.

Discover Tuscan wine and cuisine

After the afternoon siesta, Cortona comes to life again. The shops reopen and the passeggiata begins. You will be able to choose from the wide choice of bars to sample Tuscan wines and cocktails and later many excellent places to eat, very near to where the group stays.

Taking a break from the buzz: away from people and shops you can quickly view a panorama of patchwork fields, olive groves and church domes amongst the cypess trees. You can see a stunning panorama, stretching from Arezzo to across the Val di Chiana to Lake Trasimeno. A  Medici tower still stands proud above the town.

Historic domes: a short delightful stroll from the historic centre there are fantastic walks and an outside swimming pool with tennis courts.

The only hint of the landscape beyond is the occasional peep through buildings,
down a steep vicolo, providing an invigorating contrast to the walled town's activity. A vast panorama spreads out before you:across the city wall's high westerly viewpoint is a broad stretch of deep valley that starts at Arezzo city in the north and stretches before you to Lake Trasimeno, in the south, on the Umbrian border. The valley shows an agricultural patchwork of hamlets and distant towns, long straight Roman roads and train tracks connecting Firenze with Roma.

Tuscany is the most famous of the 20 regions of Italy. In central Italy, its western edge is coastline, but to the north, east and south it borders with five other regions: Liguria, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Umbria and Lazio. Tuscany is celebrated for its wealth of art, illustrious history (Etruscan and Roman) and richly evocative landscape. It's a place where the past and present fuse into a delicate harmony. Whichever part of the province you choose to explore, you will find an ancient land every bit as captivating as its reputation promises. Your only problem is deciding what to leave out.  Tuscany Traveller gets behind the tourist exteriors and finds the real Tuscany to make your choices easier and your travel even better. There are different types of holidays: you can laze by a pool or learn to cook, paint or take photographs, see Etruscan artefacts and Roman architecture. There is ballooning, bike tours on beautiful roads and sports including fencing and rowing. Let us tailor-make your stay or find the best villa, farmhouse with swimming pool or apartment for you to stay in.
